Personally, I only read a book once, with very rare exception. Basically, if I already know the ending of the story, it really loses a lot of interest for me. Hard to keep turning the pages if I already know what's on the next one, y'know?

Oddly enough, what brought this question to mind is that I'm having a hell of a time doing a final readthrough of Maelstrom to make sure I got all the typos and such... because I've read it twenty times already! ;P It's not boring, per se, but it's hard to focus on it when I know literally everything that's going on. Oi.

I read most books more than once and the ones I enjoy even more. I find every time I read a book I find something different or imagine events in a different way.

if its pratchett, i read it over and over again. If its Eddings, I read the Belgariad and Mallorean every few years...I read Durrells over again as well...

There are a few rare books that I'll read over and over again, but for the most part if I pick up a book a second time a while has passed and all I can remember is that I liked it and not what happened.

Like you though, my own books I'm forced to read ad infinitum. haha.

Most books I read at least half a dozen times...more if I really liked it ^ ^

It is very hard to read your own works through and find the typos and such because you know it inside out. Try reading the last chapter first and so on, or even each paragraph from the bottom up. It breaks your story train of thought so you have to think about what you are reading. :)

I was hoping to read it front to back to make sure it flows cohesively. When writing or editing it, it's kind of stop and go, so I haven't been able to really see how smooth it flows on a large scale. So far... just not working. ;P

:giggle: so bribe PurpleGoddess or SoulessMist or anyone you trust to be honest about it into reading it for you. I'm sure your regular readers would tell you if it was really a rough read anyway. :)

I wanted a "only with some books" category. Odd as I am, I almost always read the last paragraph of a book, first, just so I know how it ends. In case I don't ever finish the book, I guess? So it's not the 'omg book is spoiled for me' that keeps me from re-reading... it's just not having the patience to re-read what I already know. On the other hand, if I really, really enjoyed it the first time, I will sometimes go back and read books. For instance I recently bought and re-read Sabriel by Garth Nix, and found my old copy of The Black Unicorn (can't remember the author) and re-read part of that... egh, I guess it's whatever strikes my fancy :XD:
