I see the world through ancient eyes
Far greater than my years
I see the people hurt by lies
And those haunted by their fears

I've seen the Phoenix come and go
Resurrected in its flame
I've seen the rise and fall of those
Who seek their fortune and their fame

I've sat and laughed and shook my head
Watching ego's fools run by
Claiming life owes them a debt
Though they cannot answer why

I've seen mankind wage their wars
Over things they will not mend
And never stop to think about
The message that it sends

To those who will follow them
Upon Earth's little stage
When they read about their legacy
Lives filled with hate and rage

Of their God, to whom they pray
If He's as kind as they claim
Then He'd treat them all equally
And love them all the same

Yet they seem to think that they're
Each more special to their God
Seems "equally" means different things
I find it rather odd

And somehow they remain blind
To the tapestry they weave
With their lies and their corruption
It's themselves that they deceive

In this life it matters not
Who gets out with the most
For wealth and those material things
Serve no use when you're a ghost

Perhaps one day they will see
The error of their ways
And with luck wisdom will come
Before their waning days

With my words I'll try to act
As both their guide and seer
But while I can speak the words
I cannot make them hear

Author's Comments

I don't want to come off all egotistical or anything but I consider myself to be an old soul. The absurdity of how humanity treats each other and the world around them seems clear to me, though so many others seem blind to it. I like to think that, given time, the majority of our species will figure it out. If we don't obliterate ourselves first.

I have tried to put the same comments into some of my poetry from time to time, I recognize what your saying as such a true voice . Well done.

Under the great tree of dreaming, I lie listening to the whispers calling me to search for Paradise.

Thank you kindly. Just wish there were more who could see a little beyond the immediate.

A very true statement. It is always nice to see someone who shares a similar opinion on at least one thing. And you did an absolutley splendid job of voicing this in a rhyming scheme.
I do believe that I shall add this to my favourites. :)

And so we'll dance through this parade,
Only half wanting to live the charade
For none among us would be so brave
As to destroy the Masquerade

I know there are plenty of people out there who see it at least as clearly as I do (and many who see it more so), but we seem so massively outnumbered by those who can't. Always a pleasure to meet another who does. ;) Thanks for the support!

Hello old soul...

Nice to find you. Your writing is beautiful - I just love it. I will have to watch you and come back and read more.

Terrific! May I please use this beautiful poem of yours for a comic, {A kick as gargoyle outlook of society kind of one} I think it is way better than what my word stunted mind could come up with ever. {It's so pretty!}
:icontreyos:
Absolutely! Who am I to stand in the way of inspiration? ;)
